A personalized wellbeing program for all

Prisma Health is a leading nonprofit healthcare organization in South Carolina, dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of 1.5 million patients annually.

When Prisma Health was looking for a wellbeing partner, they had most of the pieces in place according to traditional wellbeing programs. They had passionate and strategic wellbeing leaders, buy-in from the organization on wellbeing inatitives, a holistic focus, and ample feedback from their employees. Yet they needed something beyond a one-size-fits-all program to have the type of impact they were seeking.

Wellbeing powered by choice, not checklists

But for the Prisma Health wellbeing team, success wasn't just measured in metrics. It was seen in the culture shift—from enrollment to engagement, from awareness to action.

With Navigate, Prisma Health built a wellness portal that met people where they were. The experience was driven by the Total Health Survey, a multidimensional questionnaire that surfaced employees' needs, interests, and readiness to change.

Team members weren't just routed to new resources—they were offered pathways that aligned with their personal goals and stage of change. That data also gave Prisma Health the insights to introduce timely new benefits (like launching financial wellbeing programming mid-year) and to sunset or adjust offerings that weren't driving impact.

The organization also shifted from an annual plan to a quarterly cadence, refreshing content, challenges, and activities throughout the year. That flexibility gave them room to adapt to evolving needs and keep employees engaged long after incentive caps were hit.

Building trust through listening

Before the team could drive results, they had to earn trust—with employees, and with their internal and external partners.

From the beginning, Prisma Health's approach was grounded in listening. That included standing up a Whole Self/Wellness BRG to weigh in on priorities, reviewing resource usage data quarterly, and using Navigate to incentivize not just behaviors but learning and feedback itself.

Stephanie emphasized that the Navigate team wasn't just a vendor—they were creative collaborators: 

Every time we brought an idea to the table, they helped us figure out how to make it real. From custom forms to highlight underutilized services to new ways of celebrating small wins, it’s been a true partnership.

Empowering action and proving impact

Total Health helped Prisma Health not only guide team members to the right resources—it also held partners accountable.

When utilization went up, internal stakeholders took notice. Program owners came to the wellbeing team asking how to be featured on the portal. Partners reported unprecedented traffic. Data from Total Health became a key input in vendor evaluations, annual planning, and benefit design.

Looking forward

Today, Prisma Health sees wellbeing as both a people strategy and a business strategy.

Incentives are thoughtfully aligned to behaviors that matter—from scheduling a PCP visit to volunteering in the community. The platform highlights internal services first, routing employees to trusted in-network care, driving satisfaction, retention, and revenue. And the organization is proactively designing for a multigenerational workforce, ensuring every team member—from Gen Z to Baby Boomers—can engage in a way that feels natural and accessible.
